Suisun City is proud to announce that Mayor Alma Hernandez has been chosen as one of only eight mayors nationwide to participate in the 2025 Mayors’ Institute on City Design (MICD) Just City Mayoral Fellowship. This fully funded, semester-long hybrid program empowers mayors and their staff to address city-specific injustices through innovative planning and design interventions. “It is an honor to have been selected for the 2025 MICD Just City Mayoral Fellowship,” said Mayor Hernandez. “I look forward to applying the Fellowship’s planning and design strategies to address challenges in Suisun City as we continue to strive for a community where everyone has access to equitable opportunities and a better quality of life.” The MICD Just City Mayoral Fellowship, now in its fifth year, partners with the Just City Lab at the Harvard Graduate School of Design to tackle pressing urban issues. Using the Lab’s Just City Index, the curriculum frames dynamic presentations and dialogues with experts in architecture, urban planning, art activism, housing, and public policy. This year’s Fellowship will focus on addressing the nationwide housing crisis by exploring what it means to house communities beyond traditional supply and demand frameworks. Throughout the semester-long program, participants will identify how injustices manifest in the social, economic, and physical infrastructures of their cities and develop actionable manifestos for their communities. Joining Mayor Hernandez in the Fellowship will be Suisun City’s City Manager Bret Prebula and Development Director Jim Bermudez. Their participation will create a comprehensive approach to addressing local challenges and implementing the strategies developed during the program. We look forward to the insights Mayor Hernandez will bring back to Suisun City from this esteemed program! Learn more about the fellowship: www.micd.org/jcmf/
