Suisun City Water Quality Update: THM Levels Meet Regulatory Standards
SUISUN CITY, CA — The Suisun Solano Water Authority (SSWA), in collaboration with the City of Suisun City, is pleased to announce that trihalomethane (THM) levels in the city’s drinking water supply meet the strict standards set by regulatory agencies. Over the past four quarters, THM levels have consistently remained below the maximum concentration level of 80 parts per billion, assuring residents of the safety and quality of their drinking water.
This achievement results from significant upgrades and process improvements at local water treatment facilities. THMs, a byproduct of chlorine disinfection, can form during the pre-chlorination phase, which is vital for removing organic materials and heavy metals from the water. To reduce THM formation, SSWA has implemented targeted measures, including adjusting pre-chlorination levels and enhancing water mixing and aeration. Regular flushing cycles also ensure water flow through the system, especially in areas where water may otherwise stagnate.
Water quality is a priority for SSWA, which conducts sampling at four designated locations in the city with quarterly testing to ensure compliance with safety standards. SSWA frequently tests more often than required to maintain consistency in quality control. As of October 15, both current THM levels and the four-quarter average fall well below the maximum contaminant level threshold.
Future Water Treatment Improvements
SSWA is exploring advanced water treatment options, including alternative disinfectants such as potassium permanganate and ozone, and is planning to pilot ultrasonic devices in clarifiers. These initiatives aim to align with evolving regulatory standards and further enhance the city’s water treatment process.
