Suisun City operates under the Council/Manager form of governance in which the electorate chooses members of the City Council, and the City Council hires the City Manager to implement City Council policy and run day-to-day affairs.
The Mayor and City Council are elected independently in non-partisan elections to serve four-year terms in office. The Mayor Pro-Tem is selected by the City Council from among its members.
Term Limits Suisun City has a four (4) term limit for the elected or appointed Mayor or member of the City Council. The terms served by a person elected or appointed to an elected office of the City Council in the City of Suisun City shall be aggregated with terms served by that person in any other elected office of the City Council in the City of Suisun City.

The City Council holds regular meetings on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month in the City Council Chamber in City Hall. If necessary for conduct City business, a regular meeting may be scheduled for any Tuesday.

The City Council also sits as the governing board for the Housing Authority and as the Successor Agency to the Redevelopment Agency. The Oversight Board is an independent review board reviewing Successor Agency actions.
